When you travel about a 193 km along the Colombo-Badulla main road, you arrive at Haputale, a quiet little town situated in which belongs to the Badulla District of Uva Province. Located at an altitude of 4736 feet, the town sits on a narrow sharp ridge with two steep falls on both sides. This precipitous position along with the Haputale Gap has created some beautiful breathtaking views of the surrounding areas from Haputale town and suburbs that shouldn’t be missed by travelers passing along the way.

There is a special place where you can see five provinces at the same time, which is from near the 1 km mark along the Dambatenna road from Haputale town. The mountain ranges of Sabaragamuva and Central Provinces, large plains of the Eastern Province, plains and lakes of the Southern Province and the Uva mountains altogether creates a most spectacular view at this particular point.

Apart from the sceneries, there are a few other places of interest that you should visit when you are in Haputale. Diyaluma and Bambarakanda are two beautiful waterfalls that are close to Haputale town which you mustn’t miss. Then there is the Adisham Bungalow, a beautiful house built according to British architecture by a British officer at the times they ruled here. The other prominent spot is the Lipton’s Seat which had been a favorite look-out point of the great tea pioneer Sir Thomas Lipton. This can be reached by going along the road to Poonagala from Haputale and from Dambatenna you have to go up a tea plantation.
