Bentota


Bentota is a one of the well known coastal cities of Sri Lanka, situated in the Southern seashore at the tip of Galle district of the Southern Province. The town is well known amongst the tourists for its golden beaches and diversity of coral reeves. The Galle Road is met by the broad sweep of Bentota Ganga River at Bentota and is crossed through a bridge. A considerably high amount of tourists are attracted towards Bentota regardless of their budget because Bentota offer a wide range of infrastructure and facilities to choose from.

A number of well recognized hotels and resorts are based in Bentota. Sinhala Ayurveda services is one of the major tourist attractions found in Bentota, which airs the traditional methods of healing using herbs and various types of natural oils acquired from plants or produced using herbs. This region is also famous for Toddy, a local alcohol made out of coconut nectar. The tourists who are interested in bio diversity related to coastal areas are attracted towards the Turtle Hatchery Project established near the Bentota beach. Turtle eggs found along the beach are preserved and allowed to hatch safely at this center and the newborns are released to the ocean at the right time.

There are a few interesting places surrounding the Bentota region such as Lunu Ganga River, Sleeping Buddha and the Brief Gardens, a construction by the well known Sri Lankan architect Bevis Bawa.
